What is a Commission?

A commission is a custom painting tailored to your unique needs.

It’s perfect when you have a specific size in mind, a particular spot in your home to fill, or a memory of a place you want to capture forever. You might also be working with a certain color palette or wanting to combine elements from different paintings of mine into something entirely new. The only request I have is that your custom piece aligns with my current painting style and themes (which are landscape-focused).

Step 1: Choose Your Size & Materials

Let’s decide on the perfect size, materials, and colors for your custom piece.

I accept commissions ranging from 20" x 20" up to 36” x 48” on either stretched canvas or cradled wood panel. If you’re unsure what size or material would work best in your space, I’m happy to help guide you!

When considering your painting, think about:

Color:

You can choose from my previous works, provide fabric or paint swatches, or even share photos of your space for inspiration.

Style & Imagery:

Since you’re familiar with my signature style, we’ll work together to capture the vision you have.

  • Are you inspired by one of my previous paintings?

  • Do you want to scale it up, or change the lighting or season?

  • Perhaps you want to capture a personal memory or location in my landscape style.

  • The more detail you provide, the more I can tailor the piece to fit your vision.

Note: I do not work from copyrighted materials, such as magazine or calendar images.

Step 2: Let’s Chat About Your Vision

Once we’ve discussed the basics, I’ll provide a quote for your custom piece.

If you’d like to move forward, we’ll schedule a call to go over more details and refine your vision.

Note that commissions are 20% more than my standard retail pricing, with a minimum commission price of $1,440.

Step 3: Secure Your Spot & Review Sketches

After we finalize the details, a 50% non-refundable deposit and a signed commission agreement are required to begin.

I’ll create several digital color sketches to give you an idea of the direction I’m envisioning for your painting. This is where we’ll fine-tune the design and ensure we’re on the same page before the painting begins. Once you approve the sketches, I’ll start the oil painting process. Depending on the complexity, size, and my current schedule, the painting will typically take 6-12 weeks to complete.

Step 4: Review & Approve Your Painting

Once the painting is finished, I’ll send you images or videos of the completed piece. If you’re local, you’re welcome to come to my studio to see it in person! You can provide any final feedback or edits at this stage.

After you give your final approval, the remaining balance will be due. Your painting will need 1-2 weeks to fully dry before it’s ready for shipment or pick-up. I can also arrange framing and shipping to make the process as seamless as possible for you.
